The Search for Anguilla Accommodations

As I mentioned in my prior post armed with my Caribbean Travel & Life magazine I set out to find the perfect accommodations on Anguilla. When I visited St. John in the USVI there were campgrounds for vacationers who desired to "rough it". We actually met some hardy souls on St. John who camped in the woods so they wouldn't have to pay the $6.00 or so a night to stay in the campgrounds. There were no such campground accommodations on Anguilla.

The Villa Section in the Caribbean Travel & Life Magazine listed 16 different accommodations. I called and or wrote and got information on many of them. I contacted a travel agent who specialized in the Caribbean. I dreamed about a lazy afternoon resting in a hammock strung between two palm trees listening to the waves lap upon the shore.

The magazine centerfold is a picture of Cap Juluca. Of course the article mentioned many other accommodations which are still there Frangipani, Malliouhana and the Cove Castles. There is a mention of Casablanca (or the Sonesta as it became), which, until it's unfortunate demise was my favorite bar spot for lunch.

I don't know how I came to decide on the place, but it was a private villa on South Hill. I think it was the pictures of the pink house that struck me and the view of Sandy Ground from the villa. It was called Skiffles Villas.
